The Piobaireachd Society of Antigonish will host the Gold and Silver Medal Tunes Piobaireachd Workshops and an evening piping recital with internationally renowned piper Alasdair Gillies.

"Alasdair was probably the most highly acclaimed competitive piper of the last half of the 20th century and does not yet seem to have reached his prime! His recital and is a 'must attend' event for pipers and bagpipe music enthusiasts everywhere!" said Scott Williams in an email press release.

The workshops will be held on March 5 and 6th, 2005 at the Celtic Studies Department, 2nd Floor, Immaculata Hall on St. Ninian St in Antigonish and the recital on Saturday, March 5th will be held at the Immaculata Auditorium at 7:30 PM. Recital admission for seniors, students and workshop participants is $7.50, adults are $10.00; and free for children under-12 accompanied by an adult.

On Saturday, March 5th: Instruction will be offered in the performance of the 2005 Gold Medal Tunes from 9:30AM to noon and from 1:30PM to 4:00PM. The tunes instructed will be MacDonald of Kinlochmoidart's Lament No. 2, Lament for Captain MacDougall, MacLeod of MacLeod's Lament, The Young Laird of Dungallon's Salute, Clan Ranald's Salute, and The Gathering of the MacNabs. (Please note: these tunes will be required for the Gold Medal events at the ACPBA Piobaireachd Challenge on May 6th.)

On Sunday, March 6th: Instruction will be offered in the performance of the 2005 Silver Medal Tunes from 9:30AM to noon and from 1:30PM to 4:00PM. The tunes instructed will be The Boat Tune, Lady Doyle's Salute, March for a Beginner, Lament for the Little Supper, Cluny MacPherson's Salute, and The Mackay's Short Tune. (Please note: these tunes will be required for the Silver, Nickel, Bronze, Copper and Pewter Medal events at the ACPBA Piobaireachd Challenge on May 6th.)

The workshop fee for both days is $60.00; for one day, $40.00.

Please register prior to the workshop and indicate if you will be attending one or both workshop days. Photocopies of the sheet music will be provided for those who pre-register by emailing scott.williams@ns.sympatico.ca or by phone at 902-863-1654. Payment must be made upon arrival at the workshop; please make cheques payable to The Piobaireachd Society of Antigonish.
