Atlantic Canada Pipe Band Association
BEGINNINGS OF THE ACPBA: 1977

Instructors workshop set for April and a new series of 'knock-out' competitions is planned for the winter months. The Association becomes affiliated with the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association and a request for similar affiliation is sent to Ontario. In the meantime, money is short. The mailing list is cut back to one newsletter per band to save on postage and printing costs. Executive decides not to accept travel allowances for attending meetings until the situation improves.

Another revision of the constitution is proposed. Louis Stephen assures us a grant will be forthcoming but we have to redo the application. Plans are made to sponsor a recording of our members bands as a fund raising venture. The Antigonish Highland Society agrees to participate and cost-share. Inter-Media Services is hired to do the taping at the Antigonish Highland Games Tattoo and the competitions the next day. There are now 16 bands registered with the Association.

The Easter workshop meets with mixed success. Scott Williams named to the workshop committee. The Association agrees to purchase a tent for the use of it's stewards at the competitions. A filing cabinet is purchased and the Antigonish Highland Society agrees to having it placed in their offices. The first Halifax Festival of Piping and Drumming is held. A photocopier is purchased but the quality is poor and it is not properly used. Five donors are found for individual championship supreme trophies. Four more are needed.

Constitution revision complete and meets the approval of the membership. New recording played at a reception following the AGM. The Association has ordered 1,000 copies and the Antigonish Highland Society has done the same. 481 are sold by year end but some bands decide not to sell them since they were not playing on the record (only prize winning band performances were included).
