BEGINNINGS OF THE ACPBA
In 1969, The Nova Scotia Pipers and Pipe Band Association was formed with the aim of joining all pipers, drummers, pipe bands and supporters into one fraternity and to establish a set of rules and regulations to govern competitions in Nova Scotia.
Antigonish, Nova Scotia, historian and piper Scott Williams was asked to chronicle the evolution of the Association from those early years to its growth into the Atlantic Canada Pipe Band Association. This is a compilation of facts and memories taken from minutes of meetings recorded by Secretaries of the Association from 1969 until 1984.
Scott Williams has been a member of the Association since its forming and served as a member of the Executive for over twenty-five years. These writings of his were published in the Association Newsletter under the title "Twenty Years of Service - The Nova Scotia Pipers and Pipe Band Association".
It may interest readers to see how much, yet how little, has changed in that time.

This takes us up to October 27, 1984. The new secretary, Mr. George Fowler, has the minutes since that time and you should consult him for the highlights of these later years. This has been an interesting if time consuming chore. Thanks for asking me to do it. There are a lot of memories in these old books! This is an outline only. Someday, you should read the full reports. -Scott Williams
