Piping Workshop:
Instructor: Matthew MacLaine (College of Piping)
The 3 T’s in Piping - Tone, Tuning, and Technique

Matthew began piping in 1991 under the instruction of Scott MacAulay at The College of Piping. He played in The College of Piping Pipe Band from 1992-1998 when they took numerous titles throughout North America. In September 2006, Matthew was honoured to start his career as the piping instructor at The College of Piping and Celtic Performing Arts of Canada. He is the piping instructor for the College of Piping Grades 5 and 4 bands.

Drumming Workshop:
Instructor: Matt Carter (ACPBA Drumming Judge)
Technique in the Sticks

Matt Carter began drumming at a Scottish Music summer camp in 1984. For the past 20 years he has been playing with the Fredericton Society of Saint Andrew Pipe Band including lead drummer and co-musical director of that group. Now during the summers, Matt is well known on the ACPBA circuit as a drumming judge. His workshop will focus on improvement of drumming techniques found from competitions this summer.

As per clause 4:06, Atlantic Canada Pipe Band Association Constitution:
The Annual General Meeting shall be held in October of each year at the call of the Executive. Notice of any motion will be submitted to the Executive, in writing, 30 days prior to the Annual General Meeting. Those members of the Executive who are retiring shall be replaced or re-elected for a term of two years and any non-active officer shall be replaced for the remainder of the term of office thus vacated.

All motions must be submitted in writing to the Secretary Kelly Mac Kellar at mackellar@ns.sympatico.ca.

Elections for the ACPBA Executive will be held in 2009 for these positions:

COLLEGE OF PIPING RELEASES TRIBUTE CD FOR SCOTT MACAULAY

Great Scott! The College of Piping releases a tribute CD for the past director and CEO of the College of Piping. 

"Great Scott!: 100 % Authentic, Heartfelt Celtic is divided into two distinct parts.  Disc one features a previously unreleased recording of solo pipe pieces by MacAulay made in 1997.  The second disc features recordings made over a period of years by MacAulay in company with a host of other artists.  Those performing with MacAulay include keyboard player Troy MacGillivray, percussionist Brad Fremlin, guitarists Kim Vincent, Elmer Deagle and Gordon Belsher, cellist Rick Tersteeg, piper Iain Speirs and several vocalists, most notably Michael Burgess and Patricia Murray." KENDRA MACGILLIVARY IS THE NEW COLLEGE OF PIPING DIRECTOR

The ACPBA would like to congratulate Kendra MacGillivray who has been hired as the Executive Director of the College of Piping & Celtic Performing Arts in Summerside, PEI.  Ms. MacGillivray will start her new position August 3rd, 2009  Click here to read the article, New Tune for College of Piping posted in Summerside's newspaper the Journal Pioneer by Mike Carson.


NEW DRUMMING EVENT

In 2009, a new drumming event has been added to the ACPBA competition standardized list. The event offers a march in the grade 5 drumming. The tune requirement is a 2 part march in any time signature. If the event is not listed on a games application, please add to the form as 85 GRADE 5 DRUMMING. The competition fee for the applicable games also applies.

Being a member of the Atlantic Canada Pipe Band Association (ACPBA) shows your support for piping and drumming in the Atlantic Region. Membership is required to compete and attain champion supreme points in ACPBA sanctioned highland games.

The term of membership in the calendar year in which you join is from January 1st through December 31st. When you join, you will receive the official ACPBA Newsletter, Drum and Drone, for the remainder of that calendar year.

The easiest way to pay for your membership:

  1. Fill out the applicable membership form:

  3. Click on SEND MONEY and follow the directions.
